Officiating any sport is not an easy task, but it is a role that is integral to the game. Rugby refereeing is a unique position where you work to maintain the continuity of the game, focusing on allowing the players to play instead of just blowing your whistle. It is a challenging and rewarding opportunity that you can get involved with today, not to mention getting paid to do it!
We are always looking for a few good referees! And a great way to give back to the game or to get involved is to become a rugby referee. Our game uses laws instead of rules, so interpretation is a big part of refereeing rugby. The referee is more of the ‘Judge’ on the field and less of a cold administrator of rules. He controls the safety and flow of the game.
If you are interested in becoming a referee, we offer courses periodically to certify and educate. Check for available course in Ohio on our website Calendar or at USARugby.org.
