St. Ignatius of the Cleveland area won the Ohio State HS 7s boys DI bracket Saturday, defeating Indian Springs 19-7 in the title game.
Led by MVP Aedan Mangan, St Ignatius claimed their second-straight 7s title, about a month after winning the Ohio state championship in 15s.
St Ignatius went 2-0 in Pool play beating the Toledo Jr Celtics 19-14 after being down 14-0 at halftime, and followed that up with another comeback – defeating Brunswick 19-7 after being down 7-0 at halftime.
Moving into the semifinals against Pickerington, the Wildcats started and finished strong, beating the Marauders 26-0 putting them in the Championship game against a red hot Indian Springs team.
The Division 1 Championship game was led by St Ignatius Captain, and Tournament MVP, Aedan Mangan. He scored two tries in the final – one of them one of the most impressive plays of the tournament. In that movement, Mangan received the ball at midfield and skillfully flicked the ball to Michael Mathews on the wing as he was getting drilled. As Mathews sped down the line, Mangan got up, sprinted downfield to support his teammate, and was there to secure the ruck. From there he spotted a gap, picked and ran in for the game-sealing try.
Pickerington defeated Toledo 21-14 for 3rd.
